Not sure why but I expect all manner of discussions about painting Napoleonic figures has "interfered" with the pace. The ridges themselves are made from a blue insulation foam fairly common here in the US (used to clad the exteriors of wooden construction houses, before the final weatherproofing and siding goes on). Unfortunately we didn't have the right tools to work with it initially, so Brien and Becky spent hours gouging out the basic shapes with inadequate knives and rasps.

After we got the shapes we were after the ridges were glued to 3mm masonite to provide added stability. the rocky areas you see set into the ridges are Gale Force 9 rocky outcrops cut in half and set into the hills with caulking. During the last session we did the final sanding down (with an orbital sander, I was covered in blue dust), glued the fine sand onto the hills, and after the photos were taken we painted them in the base brown.

Cheers
Davedavetaylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08137502467601937229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2114823305082004214.post-12280988202862970802012-04-03T03:09:39.961-07:002012-04-03T03:09:39.961-07:00Like your work!Like your work!Rodgerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14447816347472085277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2114823305082004214.post-57526184815230949052012-04-03T00:10:39.908-07:002012-04-03T00:10:39.908-07:00You chaps make it look so easy, but I have no doub...You chaps make it look so easy, but I have no doubt that it was hours of work. May I just ask what are the ridges actually made from?Michael Awdryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07049982879661559305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2114823305082004214.post-1177611706436262312012-04-02T16:03:54.516-07:002012-04-02T16:03:54.516-07:00Very nice ridges!
